Tips for working with the right real estate agent

Deciding to sell your home is a big step and can be a little scary for families. That is why it’s so important for you to choose the right real estate agent to work with.  

Throughout the selling process you’ll have questions and concerns, but by choosing the right REALTOR® you’ll have someone to discuss those issues with.

Before choosing a real estate agent, do your research. Find out what you can about their selling style and how they work with clients before you make a decision. Choosing blindly could lead you to a great agent, but more than likely it will not.  

Here are some tips on hiring the right real estate agent to help you sell your home.

  • Read reviews, talk to clients

Many times you can find reviews online for real estate agents on their Facebook page or trulia.com. All great reviews is uncommon, but read what other clients have been through and begin to build a picture of what working with this agent would look like.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask around and talk with current or past clients. Ask them about the relationship they had with their agent and get their recommendation.

 

  • Check their track record

Take a look at their website and see what you can find out about them.  

    • How long have they been in the business?
    • How often do their homes sell?
    • What kinds of homes do they sell? (a variety or only luxury listings?)
    • What kind of certifications do they have?

Understanding their level of expertise will help you narrow down your list.  If you have a luxury home and the agent only sells small homes, they may not be the right fit for you.  You will want to choose someone who has a luxury certification and has a positive track record of selling luxury and family homes.  

 

  • Look at the other homes they’re selling

Analyze how they are selling their current listings. How well do they market their listings? Look at pictures, descriptions, Facebook posts and how these listings are presented online.

Choose an agent who can help you create an impressive first look of your home to drive more traffic to see your home and its possibilities.  

 

  • Meet them & ask questions

Once you’ve narrowed down your list, meet them. Take your questions and concerns to them and see how they answer. After you meet them, you will be able to better determine if you’ll be able to work alongside them to sell your home.  

Once you make your decision, trust their expertise. Trust their credentials and years of experience in selling homes as they make decisions and recommendations.
